Billy Joel apos;s Hamptons House Demolished In An Hour Ahead Of Renovation

Portions of Billy Joel's Long Island home were demolished in about an hour on Thursday as part of his long-awaited renovation plans to raise the home. 
Photos taken from the street show an excavator at work, pulling down a portion of the Sag Harbor property to make way for renovations that include combining the two homes on his property with a two-story addition and raising one of the dwellings about 30 feet. 
The home, which has its windows boarded up to protect them, can be seen with debris surrounding it.

Joel (in 2017) had been seeking permission to carry out the renovations since 2016 
In August 2018, <a style="font-weight: bold;" class="class" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank" website that Joel had been seeking permission to perform the renovations and raising since 2016 and that raising the home was in an effort to become compliant with FEMA standards.  
The Sag Harbor Board of Historic Preservation and Architectural Review voted and approved his latest plans in September 2018, according to <a style="font-weight: bold;" class="class" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank" website class="mol-para-with-font">Joel's home is said to be close to the seawater, putting it in a precarious place given estimates that sea levels could rise by as much as 20 feet within the next 30 to 50 years, due to global warming. 
The two homes on Joel's property sit catty corner to each other. Joel had originally been seeking permission to raise and rotate one of the properties to join the homes, but the plan was rejected by the board.

The home that is being raised is said to be a shingled, two-floor home with four bedrooms, four en suite bathrooms, an elevator and a piano room. It was built in the 18th century and has since apparently been restored based on an photograph from the 20th century. 
Joel reportedly purchased the property the houses stand <a href="https://kendijaya.com/">jasa topografi semarang</a> on in 2002, under a company called   <a href="https://www.shewrites.com/search?q=Maritime%20Properties">Maritime Properties</a> LLC. He is said to have paid $1.85million for the land. 
The Sag Harbor home is supposed to be his vacation home, as he lives full-time in an estate on on <a href="https://www.medcheck-up.com/?s=Centre%20Island">Centre Island</a> in Oyster Bay, New York.
